Wikipedia Take 3 - EIPP is not part of EBPP - Wikipedia, stop annoying me!
EIPP (Electronic Invoice Presentment and Payment) is not part of EBPP (Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment), nor is EBPP part of EIPP. It is wrong to generalise. The term "bill" is used within the B2C context (requiring very little information on consumer, if any) whilst the term "invoice" is used within the B2B context (requiring details of the buyer - satisfying legislation such as EU Invoicing Directive). If you are looking to generalise, then use the term ExPP, as has done successfully by Bruno Koch of Billentis in promoting ExPP Summits for the last few years.
My previous attempts to create a definition for EIPP was deleted by so called moderators of Wikipedia. Here is the sentence from Wikipedia that annoyed me:
Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP) - also known as ebilling or Electronic Invoice Presentment and Payment (EIPP) - is the electronic delivery and presentation of statements, bills, invoices, and related information sent by a company to its customers.
Whoever wrote above did not bother to check the Wikipedia definition for NACHA which says:
NACHA develops operating rules and business practices for the Automated Clearing House (ACH) Network and for electronic payments in the areas of Internet commerce, electronic bill and invoice presentment and payment (EBPP, EIPP), e-checks, financial electronic data interchange (EDI), international payments, and electronic benefit transfer (EBT).
So much for consistency! Copy of this will be added to Wikipedia Discussion Page

I can see clearly your point of view - but don’t forget the history of all these phrases (EBPP, EIPP, ESP … remember Mr. Michael Killen :-). There are also different understandings as well in different regions (german speaking i.e.) where service providers are claiming a classical EIPP-Service as “e-Billing” … Bruno him self searched for a trademark (EXPP). why he did so? I don’t know (in EU ‘EXPP Summit” it’s his a registered Trademark).
C, unfortunately (for me) you site is in German, so I cannot read it. Thanks for the comment. In my opinion it is important to distinguish between the two terms, especially to stop potential users of these technologies/services getting further confused.
Yes, we are covering first of all the German-speaking Market and we are doing it since the end of the 90s. Yes, Vendors / Service Providers here in Germany, Austria or Switzerland has been confusing not only the users.
Today “EBPP” is not more than a recapitulating Acronym for a range of services / products that fit for B2B / B2B or A/R, A/P … that’s amazing because in germany the “Payment” doesn’t play a role, but “EBPP” has historical significance as “wild-card” for eBilling (B2C), eInvoicing (B2B/B2G) or Invoice Management Services.
But don’t ask an EDI-Expert in Germany …
Carsten, look forward to reading your site if and when there is an English version.
I acknowledge the historical view point. But my opinion is that as players of the industry, we should follow the correct accronym(s) and terminology whereever possible. Otherwise we continue to support the on-going confusion.
I noticed that you cover English articles among the German. http://www.ebpp.de/wissen/3-fachforum/1-fachartikel/13.php Wouldn’t mind subscribing (provided it is free) if such a service is available. FYI: I had an interesting one to one with Jamie Gunn, CEO of OB10 yesterday. Plan to blog some of the discussion later on, having also met Alain Falys sometime back. There is an amazing story to be told (not original though). Unlike other UK players, they are into the second management team.
